Building a dimmer

Looking to build a dimmer for the lowel 55 kit series which i think brings 1750watts to the table. Any 1 know the exact specs for a homemade dimmer. I don't want to ruin my lights hahah:(. Any info would be great.

Thanks

More likely than not you will only damage the dimmer itself, not your light. Unless you need to dim every light at the same time to the exact same amount just buy these http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=43060

They are usually only $10 in store

I second those dimmers- they are what i carry in my kit. each one will work with upto about 1500w of light.

Generally you will want to put a separate dimmer on each light that is performing a different function (Key, fill, background, etc.). Although I usually never put a dimmer on my key light.

Me, too. I use them on an Arri 650, and a Photoflex 1K softbox, and other instruments. Can't be beat for the price
