Bugs in CS4?

HI all, Im considering upgrading to CS4. Im a long time user of Premiere since ver 4.0.

Although it had some ground breaking new features, CS3 was quite bug ridden. Memory leaks, title maker headaches, issues with the photoshopserver.exe., Running low on memory errors ETC. IMHO, I would have felt safer doing 300mph in a 72 Beetle with no hood latch, than I did doing time sensitive or large HD projects in CS3.

It seems Adobe just left us in the dust with the bugs and bad coding, and moved right on to CS4.

I want to know what CS4 users are experiencing out there. Does it run smoother than CS3?.

To be honest, after 8 years, Im about to leave the Adobe world all together if they just gave the emporer some new clothes.

I already had a chance to test-drive Premiere CS4.

What I like about it so far.

  • The UI is slightly more elegant
  • The Media Encoder lets you encode while you continue working.

What I don't like about it so far.

  • The robust noise reduction filter in the encoder has been substituted with a cheap-ass Gaussian blur filter (WTF?!).:crybaby:
  • It has already revealed some bugs. For instance, Items would sometimes refuse to be renamed.
  • The projects are not backward-compatible and there is no option to save the projects with backward-compatibility (has it always been this way, is it just me?).

Version 4.01 has stabilized it for me. Also, Ver 3.2 was solid for me.
I do basic stuff though, it may be different for you.

There are still a few issues with track mattes that need to be fixed.
Titler is fixed and faster.
Downsclaling from HDV 1080i to 720p or DVD 480i is WAY better by simply using the "Scale to frame size" (this is in 4.01, not 4.00

I found CS3 ver 3.2 to be pretty stable, but I've not had really any problems with CS4. I know some others have, but overall my experience has been great. There's a lot to love about CS4 - the media encoder being my favorite.

I have only been using CS4 for about two weeks so its kinda too early to stamp it any one way. However, I'm using update 4.01 along with 9.01 AE with the new Red plug-in and being able to edit native r3d 4k footage including the sound in real time without using those stupid qtime proxies is just so sweet.

I am a long time cs3 user, but ı was always suspicious about the render quality of premiere, uncompressed i really uncomp?why all my h264 looks disgusting and compressed like hell, and when i rendered itout the same project on avid it looks amazing.I think premiere makes something by itself. But ı used to use premiere so much, these days ı am planning to transfer to final cut studio 2 with a mac book pro. I heard that FCP also have lots of bugs..and lots of smimilarties with premiere,to be honest ı am bored of xp issues not premiere:( offf i am stuck in between...waiting for your all feedbacks and directionss..
