BTS with Oscar joke writers

well, I tried to do this once and failed miserably, its not as easy as it looks. but, enjoyed the bts look.

"walkie-talkie minions" LOL
Could comedy and porn be 2 things that people might think are easy, but when the pressure's on...?

"Walkie-talkie minions" should become a catch-phrase for us to use on location!

Bill Mechanic made a big mistake by not giving the job to Conan (who he had secret talks with about it), I didn't laugh at one joke, I thought it was the worst Oscars I have ever seen. Really bad.

I don't know. No one ever lost money underestimating the intellect of the American public.

But what's worse in general- overestimating or underestimating your audience?
Overestimate and they're clueless, underestimate and they're bored.
I guess it's a balancing act, and in the case of b r o a d cast TV, they play it "safe" and dumb it down, much to our chagrin.

PBS is the only US network with consistently intelligent programming.

two versions: a European and an American. Different pacing, different music, different narration, different tone of narration, even different cutting. Needless to say that I liked Euro version more, which simply showed images with a few meaningful comments instead of making it into a hour-long trailer to a horror film.

True, the Euro style of editing docs or even news, where they cut the pictures, then add voiceover, leaving breathing space vs US style of lay down the voiceover then edit very tightly to sentences, words and phrases.

I can't help thinking that we are only a year or two out from living in Idiocracy. Not a great movie but definitely had some great ideas in the script about where we are heading. And dumb is in, not just on television, which has evolved into a dumb medium, but in literature, news, really all forms of media. Smart is out in the U.S.

Hasn't there been an anti-intellectual component of the US since at least the 1950's? It's just more recently that it's become commoditized, popularized and marketed.
"I'm dumb, I want to be dumb, therefore I am."

Yup. Basic sciences education in the US only became a front-burner priority when Sputnik launched and there was a realization that for all its virtues Genesis is not particularly useful when it comes to modern engineering.

Yes, there has been but as the decades progressed from the 50's, we still saw intellectualism in popular media and we still had a fairly large component in mass culture of at least what used to be referred to as "egg-headism". Even in my own heyday, we had Revenge of the Nerds, Gates, Jobs, Woz, The Human Genome Project, the drive for working Particle Acceleration, things that popped up in the media that at least the average person was aware of, even if they didn't begin to understand.

What do we have in popular culture today? The Kardashians, Jersey Shore, Twitter, nothing but instant gratification, Tap Out, war, a recesssion, unemployment and probably not a whole lot of effort being expended on non-military scientific research, the advancement of our national aspirations as a technological leader and toward just generally bettering ourselves as a country. We are Rome.

On a lighter note, who do you think will win on American Idol?

Ditto on the BB guns, my dad even built us a little BB gun range on the ranch. Go karts I was never lucky enough to have but I eventually did get into racing motocross and goofing around on bikes. We built a mini stadium course in our front pasture, fortunately we had a bored neighbor with a tractor and he went crazy and built us a mini practice course, which was fun.

Man dolls, never got into.
