Broken up clip?

I recently did a concert and shot a continuous clip for about 40 min. When I dumped it onto my computer, I see that it broke the file up into smaller files. It seems that they will all fit on normal size dvd now. When I try to bring into my NLE(Avid) it only finds one clip. I remember seeing it as one clip on the P2 card when reviewing it in the camera. I hope i'm clear on the problem. The files are actually seperate clips(I imagine, although I was only able to import 1). I watched them back with my media player, and the whole concert is there. So confused.

not exactly sure what it is called, might be in the manual or try searching here under different names. I know I have seen Barry talk about it.
something about a continuous shot that is over multiple p2 cards. When I open files in premiere I get the main shot, say a hour long, but it also puts in the bin smaller clips of the shot broken up into segments.

Version 5.1.5 . It's a really early version of HD, and I built my own folders for the media. Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 etc.... IT's beed going fine with smaller clips. This is the first time I had a spanned clip, because I shot 41 min continuous. I was unaware it breaks up on the card.

The cards use FAT32 and are limited to a maximum file size of 4GB.

Your recording mode will obviously affect how frequently a new segment is created, but a P2/MXF aware NLE should have no trouble handling multiple segments because they can be caused both by FAT32 limitations as well as card spanning.

Cheeto,
I think you'll be happier with a current (5.8), or at least newer version of XpressPro HD, since Avid made importing MXF from P2 more functional.
