:-/I recently shot a short drama with the dvx100a. i liked many things about it. this is the third shoot with the camera. (i don't own it, i am a cinematographer/videographer for hire)
My problem. The editor has told me he has some time code 'jumps' where the timecode skips a second or two. No black. just a jump in time code during a take that prevents the pre-roll on the avid from successfully batch capturing that clip.
ALSO, we had 2 or three occasions where the camera apparently rewound slightly and taped over the tail end of the previous shot. This was most obvious on one take where the shot ended and after slating the next shot and waiting for the actors to get ready (recording what in film would appear to be an MOS slate snce sync is not an issue) the continuity person noted a stange timecode issue....We seemed to have gone back in time. I rewound and watched the footage and, sure enough, there is the previous shot interupted by the slate and then followed by a second of the very end of the last shot. hmmmmmm
Could it be that i am powering the camera down too soon after I stop recording? Or even starting the recording too soon after powering up?
There were a few instances during the two day shoot where I thought the camera had a mind of its own as it whizzed and whirred so many times in a row it sounded like it was a little confused... having some trouble wrapping the tape around the heads or some such thing.
Any body have any experiences similar o any of the above?
Sid: me shoot. you like.
