I broke the screw mount on the bottom of my DVX100A by tightening a monopod too hard. It is split not stripped. Please tell me there is an easy DIY repair for this.....

And I thought that's the "hardest to break" part of camcorder!
Can anyone suggest what's best (better): to keep the quick release plate on DVX all the time or to remove it after each use?
Also, can the screw mount on DVX be easily removed and possibly replaced or it really has to go to authorized dealer/repair (since it's not a complicated electronic part of the cam.)?
A lot of mechanical shops can make such things easily.
The tripod mount metal plate can be purchased from the Panasonic Parts Center at 800-833-9626.
The P/N is: VMD3345.
Or you can contact one of the following Panasonic Authorized Service Centers to arrange for replacement of the part:

I broke mine as well about 9 months ago rigging the 100A to a car mount for a commercial job. I think it's designed to crack/split instead of allowing the bolt to go into the electronics of the camera.
Nothing you can do with broken threads. I ended up sending the camera for service in LA and got it back in about 3 weeks (ouch). I would order the part but installing it yourself would not be easy. I don't think you can access that area of the camera without opening up the camera itself- which isn't advised.
I would order the part and then take it to service together. From what I found out it took 3 weeks to order the part but only a short time to do the service and send it back to me. So, at least you can use the camera while your waiting for the part to arrive.
