Hey Barry,
Thanks for your stickies and posts. We use, tech, reference your book a lot around here.

In another post you refer (above) to problems users have when they don't use P2CMS/the dump drive. Have you heard of blown or damaged firewire/USB ports, not physical damage but actual short of the ports either data or power, so that the port will not connect any devices any longer?

We are a multi-user environment and most of our clients reject the dump drive/P2CMS b/c it adds an extra step to their workflow.

Of our two HVX200s, one has a dead 1394 port (it will not device connect to the Mac Pro) and the Mac Pro has a shorted firewire. at that point people started to use USB device connect, eventhough panasonic doesn't support that method with Mac equipment. Now the macpro has sustained one shorted USB and a failing USB in the back.

have you heard of any one else who has had this problem?

based on the problems that people report to you, which should i contact: panasonic or apple?

troubleshooting has led me to start wondering: while transferring P2 from the camera, are they holding down the MCR button before checking to make sure that the HVX200 is set to the proper mode: USB device, 1394 device or host..... could this be zapping the mac?

is this a result of not using P2CMS/the dump drive?

can it be a firmware thing?

thanks for your stickies!
