Broken LCD monitor - where to repair DVX100?

A friend of mine borrowed my DVX100 to shoot a wedding and when I got the camera back the flip out LCD monitor was obviously damaged in some way. It is very loose and has lost all of its resistance. If you open it and rotate it upwards to your face, then it will just fall down facing the ground. Seems to me that if you could just tighten some knd of screw then it would be fixed. The rest of the camera itself is working perfectly.

Any advice on where to send the camera? Is there a repair shop?

Or any advice on how to access and repair it myself. I am pretty technicaly minded and if I knew what to do I could probably do it myself.

Thanks, Tyosn.

First off, NEVER loan out your DVX for someone to shoot a wedding video. Have them hire you as an owner / opperator, but don't loan the thing out.

Second, if you want to tackle making the repairs yourself, then get the service manual first to see if it is within your skill set. This isn't the easiest camera to work on.

You can find more information on authorized repair faculties and parts at:

Interesting. I too have a DVX LCD that is loose. BUT it is not broken or so loose that it can't stay in place. Somehow while I was using it I bumped it in a weird way and right away noticed how loose it got. It almost seems like something got turned, a screw maybe, and that's why it is loose. The color didn't shift or any dead pixels or anything weird happens when I move the LCD. It is just looser than normal.

PS: I am in the Atlnata area.

You could take it to Showcase Video on Cheshire Bridge. It's in the same plaza as the Tara theatre near I-85... where Club 112 USED to be.

There's a guy downstairs that repair cameras. I have no idea what they may charge. But here's a hint: he's probably not cheap.

This is for the new DVX100b Below is interesting.. Maybe a common thing.

The LCD screen will now show letterbox for 16:9 shooting. The space above and below will show relevant shooting data and the screen is now better protected against drops.

DROPS??!!!

You're telling me people are actually dropping their cameras???? Holy crap! As long as it took me to save for my DVX.... aint no way this camera's hitting the floor.... I play too many video games for that to happen!

Once some idiot bumped my tripod and it started to fall. I caught my camera 2 feet from the ground.

NEVER A DOUBT IN MY MIND. I'm damnned if it hit the floor!

No matter who you think you are; You cant stop some idot from breaking your camera. If your going to video tape (with other people) then there is always that risk.

And I didnt really just lend it to the guy; he was hired by me to shoot an event. I had to shoot a seperate event in another city. I had no choice.

I will try showcase: Thanks.
