Broken HDMI Connector

The HDMI connector on the back of my AF100 is broken. You really have to twist and tweak any cable to get it to register a connection.

The camera is more than a year old. What is the best way to go about getting this fixed? Should I go straight to Panasonic or another reputable repair shop like Spec-Comm (where I ordered the camera from)?

Chris

p.s. Also, once I do get the camera fixed, any suggestions for how to protect the jack in the future? It seems like HDMI connectors a little fragile and one errant tug and it will break again.

Remember there's a three-year warranty (if you registered on the PASS site) so I'd definitely ask Panasonic if it's covered under warranty.

And yeah, HDMI is the flimsiest, most fragile ... well, that's not true, mini-HDMI is the flimsiest, most-fragile thing out there. But HDMI itself isn't much better.

I thought it was just one year - not three - cool. I am registered on the PASS site - so I will definitely reach out to Panasonic.

It's one year by itself, and when you register on PASS it automatically gets extended to three years. There are some exclusions, but I doubt the HDMI port would be excluded (unless there's obvious evidence that the failure was caused by abuse, I guess).

I blew out the HDMI board, probably due to excessive moisture, & Panasonic repaired it in a couple of days.

While not the cheapest option, Olof's Nano Bracket, & Shoulder Brace has a tab that extends slightly behind the AF100, & even when not using the brace, or bracket, makes a nice place to velcro the HDMI cable. It does such a good job of protecting the cable that I rarely unplug from the camera, even when stuffing it into an overpacked rolling case.

Nice suggestion. Maybe also consider plugging in an HDMI extension cable, and then velcroing that down somewhere, so you're never putting any actual stress on the camera's own HDMI port?

You might try using a HDMI 90 degree rotating adapter into the camera. You can then leave slack in the cable and velcro wrap it to something so that it doesn't have any direct stress on the actual jack. This setup works well for me.

Just a quick update.

I brought my camera to the Panasonic service center in NJ and a week later I had it back fixed - all free and covered under warranty.
