Broken EVF

I recently sent in my DVX to have the manual focus rings repaired. I recieved the camera back today, and yet another thing is broken.

The EVF does not work. The LCD works fine, but the EVF is bad. When it is at 180 degrees, nothing shows up. At about 130 degrees, everything is white, and at 90 degrees the entire DVX shuts off.

I have been advised to NOT use my camera at all, for it might short out the entire system. The only problem is that I NEED to use it this weekend for a shoot. Will I be at risk if I only use the LCD?

It sucks having your camera for 7 weeks, 3 of them being in a shop.

I would concur with the recommendation of not using the camera if rotating the EVF causes it to shut down. Likely that there is a fault in the flat flex cable to the display and the back-light inverter is consuming enough current to pull the camera below its minimum threshold voltage. Its just not worth doing additional damage by attempting to use it.

If the camera were to short out completely, from me using it this weeked, would that be covered by my warrenty?

Hey SkiUtah,

I am really sorry about your luck with the camera, I have a broken focus ring on mine also. The ring won't seem to rotate at all. Do you mind saying where you sent yours to be fixed and how much it cost?

Thanks for any help,

Russell
