Broken Circle

Yeah, it was really tight in there - 4 of us moving round with the camera, and both behind Wormwood and the guys on the opposite wall was really tight, there was just enough space to get the Steadicam base behind the chairs, but it was really tight. But we got round it OK...just ;)

Another one of my favorites. The one take circling the table was absolutely brilliant. And what made it brilliant is that it added so much to the vision of what the film was about. Tracks would not have worked on this one. The SteadiCam work gave it just a little imbalance to it, you know. This film was a fine example of craft and tech.

The only critical things I have to say are this. The dialogue became jumbled a bit. I don't know if this is the effect you were looking for. But I was actually getting a little peeved that I couldn't understand what everybody was saying. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO SEE THE SCRIPT. PM ME IF THIS IS POSSIBLE.

And it ended a bit abruptly. I like the fact that you started the film well into the seance, or university lab exercise, or whatever the setting was. But I fell you needed to work a bit of basic dramatic structure into the script.

Still, a great piece of work. I really enjoyed it.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:

Well, there isn't all that much to say here, but the lighting in the film was great. I don't think I'd have been as freaked out if I was able to really clearly see their faces. Kudos on the steadicam work. Having one continuous shot really gave this film a different feel from all the rest.

SOUND:

Overall, everything sounded great, the dialogue was easy to hear and understand and the background sound effects were mixed well. The only thing was during the end when everyone was screaming. Because of the loud volume I started hearing some distortion, nothing too terribly bad, but it was still there.

SCREENPLAY:

Very nice idea. I especially enjoyed that you kept the entire film in one single location during one single event. The dialogue was written pretty well, and the piece flowed well from start to finish.

ACTING:

I think all of your actors did a great job. I dunno how many takes it took to get the entire thing done, but the fact that all of your actors were able to perform a 6 minute scene was awesome. That definitely shows some talent.

Overall I think this was a very interesting film. Definitely different from the rest in a good way. I liked the simplest approach and feel you pulled it off quite well. Good Job.

Thanks for that, I think the lighting works. Would it have been better on a higher format/ brighter lighting? Who knows...I also think that the low-key approach adds some realism. Thanks

Hey !

What a ambitious short you made; wow.

De Palma and Hitch would be proud with this single roll. I enjoyed this piece. The lighting seemed off and at times the sound was a bit much but overall, I was impresssed.

Great job on the concept !

I can only imagine that it would be easier to document the inner workings of a whale's intestine whilste being ingested by it than to attempt this. And do it well? That's in a category by itself. The timing for the actors alone makes me shudder.
Bravo to everyone. -gordo

my girlfriend and i were at the edge of our seats. amazing that you could pull it off. really really great acting. good dialogue kept it moving, and the ensemble cast, BRILLANT! as the guiness men would say. top 3

Cheers Gordo, It wasn't that easy :) Especially as when only had time for two takes at it. The Actors nailed it. I was lucky to work with them.
