Broken card reader pin.

Hi all.

Just got done with a shoot with two 5Ds...went great. In the post shoot sorting and shuffling the compact flash reader we were using ended up in the wrong bag and I don't have it right now. I would really like to dump the cards ASAP, but my card reader has a single broken pin. Does anyone know if this will cause problems with the transferred files? Everything seems to mount up and read fine but I want to know if anyone knows the more technical side of this? Most threads refer to broken pins inside the camera rather than the reader, and usually in those cases it is clearly non-functional.

Thanks!

Why not just plug the camera in to your computer and use that as the reader for the moment ?

You only need a USB cable.

Ah !

I see.

I suspect if it loads up ok and you can play the footage then you are in the clear.

while playing the said missing pin footage, if you start to feel light headed, delete it immediately...

Thanks all. The cards dumped fine and most stuff I tested seems to play fine. I am going to dump everything again with another card reader to have a third backup, and backup the stuff I just dumped. Those cards don't need to get used for at least a few days.

On another note, does compact flash seem to take a really really long time to dump over USB? I usually shoot SDHC and the cards seem to dump faster for some reason...we're using SanDisk Extreme IV and III compact flash cards....hmmm...maybe it's just the large size (16gb) and I'm not used to it (I usually shoot on many 4gb SDHC cards with the GH1...which also holds 35 minutes per 4GB rather than 12.) About 1.5 hours per card?
