I'm surprised nobody has started this thread yet. Just came back from checking out this flick. I tried yesterday but it was sold out so I a little early today and barey made it in again. I really enjoyed this movie. I also honesty believe Heath Ledger should win something for his performance. Certainly a tough movie to make and Ang Lee tackles the subject head on and honestly. Worth a look.... if you're man enough. :)

i thought Ledger was really good but it didn't seem believable to me lot of flaws (my opinon)

"The movie Brokeback Mountain opened this week. It's making history as the first western ever where the good guys get it in the end." - Tina Fey on SNL.

I just caught this today and I thought it was excellent. And yes, Heath Ledger was pretty amazing. The cinematography was gorgeous and the love story was handled beautifully. I hope people embrace the film.

I'm sure a lot of guys are afraid to admit they watched this movie given the subject matter.

I just read a feature about it in American Cinematographer, and I'm dying to see it. Supposedly, there are almost no dolly shots, crane shots, etc.? Just regular tripod work. Relatively low budget. We could probably learn alot from this one, and I'm not just talking about the cinematography.

So, should I see it then?

i think they made a big deal out of it because of the subject matter. if they spent more time on some of the scenic shots and did more home work on what cowboys do on the range all the work. the hats, clothing tents all their gear were'nt right it just wasn't real

That's awesome.

I finally saw this film tonight after trying like crazy to avoid all posts, reviews, and discussions about this film for weeks. In my fifth attempt to see the film I was finally able to get tickets (I hate buying online ahead of time) and I can say that this is the best film of 2005 (although I obviously saw it in 2006).

For anyone wanting to go ahead with any of the gay jokes, my review isn't going to really focus on it at all. This was the best love story I have ever seen in a film. I'm suprised that people are talking about the flaws because I found this to be the one time where the story, and a love story, overcomes every other element of the film. The cinematography is perfect, some incredible shots, and some of the smoothest pans ever seen. Furthermore, hardly any dolly work, not much hand held, very long takes. Honestly, it reminds me of a Hitchcock film, and that is a massive compliment.

I have not seen something in a theatre that touched me the way this film does. You completely forget that you are watching a love story that develops between two men, and it honestly just comes down to a true love story. The acting was... wow. Incredible I don't think can begin to describe what this movie was.

It has often been said that the turning point for Warren Beaty was in Bonnie & Clyde, a male sex symbol in America playing an impotent man. This film is going to have the same outcome for Jake & Heath (Can't spell Jake's last name so I'm going to pretend that I'm on first name basis with them both).

Ultimately there are three things that had a lasting impression on me about this film. 1. As much is conveyed through the silence and glances as through the words, the acting, story, and direction is mindblowing. 2. The visual aspect, this is the most beautiful film I have seen in a long time. 3. The honesty of this love story. This is a pure love story that I think speaks to anyone open minded enough to deal with the subject matter.

I strongly suggest that if you consider yourself a fan of films to check this film out. I am planning on seeing it again because words cannot begin to describe how incredible this film is.

I agree Yankee. One of the most compelling, innovative yet simply emotional films I've ever seen. Truly a work of art. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. Still can't, 3 weeks later. There are elements of an "art film" in it, such as shots and choice of dramatic scenes, that just provide beautiful nuances to an otherwise "accessible," classic love story (with a "twist" obviously). I think this film is a watershed achievement. I heard a couple women lamenting how "horrible" it was that the main characters "ruined their wives' lives." I thought every character's life was hurt by what is essentially society's shameful disregard.

I know I am going to sound shallow; but do we need to see a movie about 2 dudes ? Yeah yeah; I'm being a dick. :undecided

But really. Isn't it just hip to be Bravo these day's ?

I jus't don't wan't to see a love story about two dudes. Yeah, I said it. Sorry.

:undecided

Brokeback Mountain; i jus't can't stomach it I'm afraid.

There's no reason to be sorry about it. John Wayne is rolling over in his grave.

Maybe watching tow guys in love tells you what love really is. With all these silly hollywood love stories, I'm sure the meaning is lost. I think that might be the appeal. It atleas was the impression I got from watching the previews and talk show scenes.

No theater around here would touch this film until it won/was nominated for all the awards. So its playing now in about three theaters. I am taking my daughter to see it today (she's 17yrs, and able to handle the subject matter).

For all the complaining I've heard around here about Hollywood only knowing how to do remakes and having no original ideas anymore, ya'll sure are bashing this original twist on the standard love story theme.

I had a feeling that you were going to chime in on this one Hudson, and I almost PM'd you last night to suggest that you go see it. This is the furthest thing in the world from a 'gay' film, it is simply a love story.

I really think you'll enjoy it, imagine it like this, it's Titanic on a Mountain that lasts for a lot longer than 2 days.

It's worth going to go see.
