Broadcast output

Hey all -

I'm a long-time web guy but getting a fair amount of broadcast work. With the specs I get from the major cable providers almost universally stating 1080i-60, I generally shoot 30p for broadcast spots and output to those specs.

I have a 24p web spot that the client has decided to run regionally; I've done an output test from compressor converting it to 1080i-60 and it looked OK.

Is this the standard way to handle 24p when specs call for 1080i? In the past I've just sent 1080-24 progressive, and most stations haven't rejected it. I usually edit at 720 or 1080 even for the web, so I'm covered for resolution. Just wondering what most broadcast & dub houses prefer?

Yes. For better or worse the industry is still suck in 59.94i land. Many broadcasters these days will want a 59.94i (for broadcast) and a 23.98p master (for conversions into PAL, etc). I'm sure that many stations these days can put 24p material directly into their servers and run it, but there's lots of outdated documentation and general lack of knowledge perpetuating confusion which ultimately leads them to asking for 59.94i versions of just about everything.
