FS7: British drama

Even on a low budget feature the camera is unlikely to be anywhere near the most expensive consideration for the shoot so I'd always try to find the tool that fits the job. Not yet found that the Fs7/F5 is the best at any one thing yet and so I'd probably have other choices for different types of filming.

But that's no slight on the FS7, and in fact I'l be using it for two shorts over the next two months so can really put it to the test.

Guys Im firmly in the camp that say the camera is a tiny part of the machine and the FS7 crosses a huge bar for me - It makes pretty pictures. (and I can carry it without dinging my back)

With this quality of camera at this price most camera stuff is just willy waving

If I were running a feature Id very unlikely use anything else (exept a BMC4k in tight spaces) - There is so much other stuff to waste money on than cams.. like decent wages for all, a second cam/op and other stuff

I come from stills where my £15000 hasselblad (2005) is clearly junk compared to my nikon D600 - and at £1200 that is a stills cam that works at the top level - so im basically in the camp that the tech basically becomes cheap.. we all know a £1000 laptop beasts a 2005 £100000 colour suite.

Wearing the other hat Im just saying that for example a repeated move on a Milo might be better on a varicam mainly as it wont move under FF torque.

Nah traded it (and £5g of glass) in for 10% of its new cost a while ago - think it funded my 50-300 and a night in pizza hut for one :(

I really see the era of exotica as over unless you can pay for it in the first two quarters

Still... Unlimited salad bar whoop whoop!

On a serious note, cameras have come down in price so much that I don't know what constitutes exotica anymore. You can rent the cameras that shot Exodus: Gods and Kings for around £200 a day.

I just think the era of the owner/renter is over for the top tier cameras unless you have a job lined up that pays for it in advance. A lot of pals with EPics and now even dragons not able to rent them out because of rental houses doing such crazy deals.

Yup, that is why I am no longer an owner/op of a Red Epic anymore.

I can pick up the phone and get a decent package for a slamming deal in about 15 minutes.

Didn't make good business sense to own anymore.

That's why I didn't upgrade to a Dragon too and went FS7 instead. Less of a risk. And weirdly it has paid for itself in 2 months :)

Ive just updated my drama showreel the opening sequence is from this film and also sequence at 1.53.

Really pleased with the look..

Looks good Sam, did you disable matrix in custom mode?

As for British look/feel, I recently watched Harry Brown and really liked it, in fact, I like a lot of British cinema. They are a bit more "real" as Sam had put it. Maybe less glamourized than Hollywood films although I like those too.

Cheers,

I guess this lot is all EI, I flipped to Custom for some blacked out INTs - not seen.

I do disable matrix as you can clearly see it boosts saturation and makes it (more?) different from slogEI.

I shot a few projects with matrix enabled in custom mode before I knew better to turn it off, its definitely better in my opinion.

Be sure to post some video once and if you can.

No good or bad - I just want my custom to match my EI but have NR at higher ISO, yes there is the unknown gamut but turning everything off seems to get close..
