This camera is £2800 at expandore in Singapore and i shall be in Bangkok in the summer so the thought has crossed my mind too.
Tax in the UK is horrendous, and getting worse.
You'll want to post the box and packaging home separately and just stick the camera in a camera bag. it's highly unlikely you'll get a pull coming from the states, as the security at the other end is amongst the heaviest in the world.
