Brightness (gamma?) changes when I change frame size

I have some HDV footage (1920 x 1080) that I shot to be cropped to cinemascope (1920 x 816). I have done some color correction in final cut and looks great when I render the applied effects in its native size (1920x1080), but when I changed the frame size to cinemascope and re-rendered it, my footage looks noticeably brighter. Why is this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated since I have to turn this project in, in about a week. :undecided

Are you watching on your desktop, or on an external monitor?

Never, ever, ever trust what you see within the FCP viewer or canvas windows.

Yes, I' am viewing it on my desktop. BUT, either way the gamma shouldn't change. When I preview a STILL image in my viewer (in FCP) it looks fine, but when I press play after rendering, it is a lot brighter than the STILL preview in my viewer. It doesn't do that at all in it's native size. In other words, I' am not getting the same level of gamma I make that I see in my viewer after I render. Maybe I should post pictures...

What I don't understand is why when the viewer is paused the image looks fine (what I want), but when I play it the gamma changes (brighter) ?
