Bright Reds / Oranges

When I'm shooting bright colors like red and orange they appear to be overly vibrant.
I was wondering if this is normal or maybe I have a setting that needs to be adjusted.

You can cut down the reds in-camera to some degree. Use the "normal" matrix, instead of cine, and it'll result in less-boosted colors. Turning your chroma level down a notch or two would accomplish something similar. A move that may be little drastic would be to set the color temp setting one notch towards the blue, which would de-emphasize reds but quite significantly, so you may not want to go that far.

I use cine matrix and then just adjust the colors (saturation) in post.
Using a vectorscope.

On the flipside of the original question, how do you bump up the colors but keep them broadcast legal for example the show "CSI MIAMI" uses bright vibrant colors that to me would seem like the levels on the scopes would be well into the illegal range.
