Bright pixel noise

Hi there,

Part way through filming a show our DVX100 started recording bright white pixel noise in some parts of the image. The problem was intermittant at first, but is now permanent.
This effect is visible when the camera is on standby mode, so I assume it is not related to the tape or heads.
No settings were changed when the problem first appeared, as the camera was filming at the time, locked off on a tripod.

Any ideas what could cause this?
