Hello all,

This is a short film I wrote and directed. It was shot using an Arri SRII with a 15-100mm zoom and a 9mm prime. We only had 2000 feet of stock which made the project very difficult. I believe we did a 2nd take on 2 or 3 shots. We also were never able to run full scenes. Instead I had to break scenes into which lines and actions were going to fall into which frame size.

It was hell.

But also forced us to be very very very prepaired on the day. No 2nd chances. So in that sense it was a really amazing learning experence.

Was the bus a rental or did you go guerilla on the city bus?
 
The bus was a rental. However they were very nice and gave it to us for free. If anyone is ever shooting in Vancouver and ever needs any vehicles definitely get in touch with 9-1-1 film cars.

Very nice, love the photography. Sometime limitations is a good thing, it make you think very carefully at what you do.
 
Nathan, beautiful film. Nice cinematography, acting and direction.

The nightmare you experienced shooting it was not apparent at all in the final piece.

Beatiful Job! Cinematography was amazing, looked very very professional. I had goosebumps at the ending scene where it goes into the credits which you know when you get goosebumps it was good stuff! Very very pleased with that, so pleased i had to register an account and give you a comment.
 
A 12:40 TRT with 2000' of stock is a pretty lean shooting ratio. Nice job.

I am not certain (I will watch again) but the long shots of the city skyline (both day and night) looked like they might have been static frames. Were they?
 
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was great! Innocent, humble and beautifully done. Like disjecta already said, the hell you went through is not apparent and in my opinion was clearly worth it! Thank you.

Neither shots were static. If you watch it on a bigger screen and not compressed for the internet you can tell theres a little bit of movement.

The rough cut came out to 14:00 TRT but we cut a scene out. In retrospect I wish we'd known to cut it at the script stage and save the film for other things. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

and theres always the next film!

Loved this little film. Kudos for the spot-on technical work - you guys certainly pressed that tired, old 12-120 Ang into hard service on this thing.

Best part for me was the spartan directing style. In particular, the film's optimistic styling juxtaposed against the gritty cityscape was a nice element for me.

I only wish I had a larger version to view.

Absoloutely brilliant. I enjoyed watching that immensely and I believe youve got a very bright future ahead of you.
