bright areas "heat -effect"

Hi,

I got my DVX a few days ago and have been triying out this awesome machine the last few days.
I´m new with the DVX so this may be a stupid questions:

The bright areas, areas with too much light , seem to make a strange "heat" effect. Like when you look at fire or the road in a hot summer day.

When opening the iris too much , to gain a burnt image effect the complete picture seems to have this water -blur-heat effect (specially in really bright areas of the picture).
I´m using f5( factory settings).

Is this something normal? can someone explain why this happens?

Thanks in advance and thank you all for the great info on this board. It´s helping me A LOT with my new camera!!

I think you are talking about "over-exposed" parts of your image.
Search this forum for "Getting the right picture" and you will find everything you need to know about producing wonderfull footage with your DVX.

Untill then, if shooting under bright light (specially outdoors) you have to close the iris a bit, white balance properly and play around with shutter-speed untill you get the good picture.
Also, there is "zebra-pattern" for checking for over exposed parts of your image.

Hope this helps.
Enjoy your DVX :)

Yes, that´s the right term.

I´ll keep on cheking and try to play around with the iris, WB, zebraP, etc.

Thank you for the reply.

Just so you understand the zebras fully, they don't get recorded on tape. They are just there as a guide while you're shooting.

Also, I believe in F5, Cine Gamma is on, therefore no "knee"protection for blown-out highlights. Change that to Cine_Like_D. Your highlights will be protected a little more.
