Brevis35 Outdoor test

This material was recorded the same day as the kitchen test. I just drove around looking for interesting shots. I'm impressed with how nice the Brevis looks...it creates a very filmic image. I was recording in 720pn 24p in the Cine D set up. The second shot in the sequence I forgot to turn on the vibrating GG. If you look closely, especially at the out of focus area you can see the grain. Sorry for the cliche flag shot...but it just happened to work in the sequence. Also the audio is a bit wonky but I reduced the bitrate so the file size would be a lot smaller. I used a 28mm, 50mm and an 85mm. BTW, I didn't CC any material.

Nice footage. Do you agree with me that the 35mm adaptors do more than just allow shallow depth of field? LIke you say, the images look more filmic. I think also in ways not related to DOF.

Other than that, is there anything with the adaptor that you would like to see different in the future or any complaints?

Nice... .Shot of the flags was really sweet... Have you been experimenting with rack focusing with the adapter? I could see a lot of uses for this...

Thanks for showing!

Amos: I haven't had the Brevis long enough nor have I played with it enough to give you a good answer as far as changes or complaints. Ergonomically I like the way it fits with the camera, rather than having a box between the camera and the prime. Right now I really like it and agree it gives the recording a much more cinematic or filmic feel than the naked output of the HVX...although that clean look can also be very compelling.

Justyn: I did mess around with rack focusing and to be honest it is difficult with the small 35mm lenses. Some racks need more than a full turn of the lens which is very hard to do smoothly. Also these lenses tend to breath quite a bit more than a TV or film lens, which just doesn't look great. I'll try to post a few of the racks I did.

Wow. Great stuff, It seems as if everyone is getting the Brevis. How much is it? Also The 2nd Shot you stated that you forgot to turn the brevis on. Is that why the background is so distorted looking.. I want to alsmost say shmirred.

Well you can definitely see the grain of the ground glass in that shot. Also I was using Cine Gamma D which does not roll off your levels when you start to clip...so the road was over 105IRE and was just pure white. That in combination with the grain from the GG may be why it looked that way to you.

Jack, we've been working our pants off (literally) to come up with an adapter that sees very little light loss, is HD capable, sets up in seconds, is bulletproof, sealed from dust and free of power hassles, and will work off rails. Recently we added interchangeable diffusers, to the unit, PL mounts, etc, etc.

I haven't slept much in the last year :-)
