Brevis35 in Florida

Looks fantastic! I'm considering buying the Brevis for a feature I'm gearing up to shoot, but I have some questions about it. Ever since I saw the cinemek G35, I've been looking for a comparable adapter. G35 footage is very crisp and I really like that. So far, I think the Brevis is closest comparable adapter out there, but it feels a little softer to my eye. I know the Brevis isn't a static adapter though so I'm wondering if that's the difference.

My question is, have you ever tried using the adapter while the GG is static? If so, which way gives you a sharper image? And is there a lot of visible grain when the GG is static? Also, when the GG is moving, how much noise does the motor give off? Is it something location sound needs to be concerned with?

Thanks dude, always love your footage.

I wouldn't recommend using it with the GG static, as grain becomes pretty visible at any F stop. The noise the motor gives off is detectible in a quiet room by your ear, but I've NEVER had a mic pick it up, even in quiet room dialogue scenes with the Oktava right next to it.

i have the ifocusHQ which is a static adapter. I use a nikon 50mm lens 1.4. Grain becomes visible after closing by 2 stops. so me thinks around 2.8

I have used it as a static adapter by accident. For the first 5 shoots or so I kept fprgetting to turn it on. I can say that with my set up I can't see the grain when its off. I have seen other adapters like the M2 and the one Timur has where the grain comes into focus with little stopping down. At first I thought there was a problem with the Brevis but after forgetting to turn it on and seeing no grain, I changed my mind. The camera has to be really stopped down, almost closed for me to see the grain to focus on it when I'm setting up. Yes the images are much sharper when its off. I'll do a test this weekend with it off and on so you can see. Remember, the softness in these shots are because the lenses mount thing wasn't locked on and the lense would wiggle. I think the lense was actually pointing slightly down too since I didn't have the rails with me.

Oh man, that would fantastic. Yes, please do that. If I can be so bold, please post a clip at full resolution. Even if it's just 10-20 seconds for file size constraints. Need to get a good idea of what I'll see at full size. I know compressing can make the grain disappear.

Thanks much Aram, you rock.

Just to let you know, I have the Beta version of the Brevis and will be getting the new version in a few weeks. A friend of mine has the new one and if I can, I will try to shoot some with his also.

Aram, I'm going to drive there myself and pick it up if you don't send that thing back for it's replacment soon! The new adapters have improved a great deal from the beta units ... and you won't look back once you've used a new one. Your softness issues will be a thing of the past too.

That little girl is just precious :-)

Looks like you had fun down there Aram.

Hey Dennis (guskersthecat), you never responded to my email that I sent about 5 weeks ago. lol You have an A1 right? Do you have an adapter suitable for it?

Hey Dennis, I'm still trying to get back on my feet from disability. I started working again but my last pay was half again so I'm hoping next pay will be enough after the bills.
Coffee, it was too much fun. I didnt put any of the fishing footage in there or the helicopter picking up the kid that got hurt after his moms van rolled over. Or the firing range. It was fun as fun could be with healing hips.

Hey, I had to take home a 3D project this weeked so I didn't leave the house. Sorry about that, it was a great weekend too. It was in the 70s here. I have to get this finished by Wednesday so it will have to wait until then. :(

Ahhh, no worries. Work comes first. 70's in NYC in January?? Damn.. not fair. I lived on w37th between 5th and 6th for more than a decade and I miss it. I figured at least I've got the weather. NOW YOU'VE GOT IT TOO!!! lol...

Look forward to you posting a clip when you have the chance. :)
