Breaking big clips into smaller independent clips | FCP + HVX

Just got done shooting an interview intensive documentary and am about to begin logging the footage. How do you break up long clips and have the resulting smaller clips appear as independent clips in the asset area? Is this possible?

Im using fcp 5.1.4 still and with p2 important within fcp you can just select a clip, give it some ins and outs, name it, import it, and then select the clip again, change your ins and outs, and import again, resulting in 2 smaller clip in the bin but both from the same master mxf off the card.

Select the long clip in a sequence.

Go to Modify -- Independent Clip.

Then you can cut the clip into smaller pieces and relabel each clip.
