Breaking Bad

If you love the show you should check out the official Breaking Bad PodCast, where Vince Gilligan and much of the cast discuss lots of story and production issues that came up when creating each episode. Tons of cool insider info.

i'm watching it a second time as well mike. i am blown away by what i saw (no pun intended).
That was one helluva tight episode, a perfectly written season finale.

Wow what a season and season finale, it took a while for it all to sink in. I was wondering how he would get out of it. "The enemy of my enemy...".

Walt has always put his family first for better or worse. Since he considers Jesse his son, the same here and Walt doing what he did to that child at first I wondered why but it finaly makes sense. Pulling back from a previous season with Jesse's old girlfriend who suffocated. Yeah Walt is the ultimate bad@ss. Anton Chigurh has nothing on him. "I'm the one who knocks!"

Wow, amazing. What do you say that hasn't been said already?

I guess we'll all just reconvene here next summer?

Just doing a google search on BB, face off, (Yeah, I was looking for a Google image of Gus' face) I can't believe how many people write synopis' of TV shows online. It's one thing to wax philosophic on an episode (like this guy) but I'm amazed how many people write a blow-by-blow account of each show. Is it for the benefit of people who don't have time to watch the show but would rather read about it? :undecided

And once you've watched the season finale, the episode title "Face Off" may seem a little cheeky... :-)

Even calling it Cheeky is a bit Cheeky.

I can't believe how fast this season went by. That 13 felt like 6, I thought I had a month or two left. Great way to end it, can't wait until next season.

Great season, great show but...for Gus to rush to the nursing home before trying to see what the DEA visit was about felt inauthentic. The straightening of the tie prior to his collapse was caricatural.

I just got into Breaking Bad a month or so ago. I bought the first season blind, loved it, and bought the rest. I just watched the season 4 finale. Holy crap. I don't know if anyone here heard about it, but next season is going to be the last. Although it'll be 16 episodes instead of 13.

That's great. I actually like it when a TV show has a shelf life. Instead of pushing things on year after year and getting stupid. I knew this one had an end in sight, didn't realize it would be next year.

I really respect and appreciate the hard cap Gilligan has put on Breaking Bad, especially given the show's created limitations.

Season 4 was awesome and definitely held up. Some great insights and complexities added to the characters and I can't wait to see where they all end up next year

Fairly pleasant surprise when I found out a few weeks ago. I thought it would come back in the fall. I'm tuning in tonight, no doubt.

That magnet caper was such a blight on an otherwise great series. I feel like I am a curmudgeon for failing to suspend my disbelief, because elsewhere the episode is receiving such positive reviews. That magnet is like a big rusty elephant in the room. Lets address it.

First off I love the series obviously. The assembly of each element is as meticulous and methodical as Walter White himself. So why this ridiculous foray into pseudo-science fiction? I am not an expert on industrial scrap magnets, nor have I done any flux calculations (or could I even if I wanted to). If you've ever seen these things in action, you know the operator must dip the head right into the scrap and drag it around. Even little bits do not suddenly leap up to meet it until they are within a foot or so. Yet in the scene, Walt's magic magnet whips stuff off the shelf from 20 feet away, including a largely non-ferrous laptop. They whole thing felt so dorky and Bruckheimer-ish. I can look past the defeat of a keypad entry by backing out two Philips screws...it keeps the story moving. I get it. But then it descended into 14 year-old boy's fantasy from there.

I know, I know. Relax already. But it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Going to have to agree with you on that. I'm pretty sure magnets, even high powered ones, do not work that way. I'm definitely not well versed in magnets, but don't they exponentially lose power based on how far they are from their target? The reason the crane can pick up the cars in the junk yard is because the magnet is touching the roof of the car before it can pick up up.

The other seasons do have moments where you need to sort of suspend your belief, but that magnet trick was pushing it.

I'm sure the magnet trick will be on Mythbusters shortly...While it may strain credulity, who knows how the magnet was modified, or how much power was added to it. I will say it probably would have been smarter to pulse the magnet, using even more power but in very short durations. Probably would have done the job just as well or better.

We've gone from the sublime to the ridiculous (or however that old saying goes)

We have to suspend our disbelief, no doubt….but the whole thing is just so far-fetched. Plus, I feel they'd be able to track that rent-a-truck regardless of Walt's flippant attitude. The (real) law ain't stupid. We'll see.

Still a great show, in the grand scheme of things, who gives a crap. It was pretty funny when the truck tipped. :)

EDIT: did any one else notice that Michael Slovis is no longer the DOP?
