Most of the 16 gig cards are going out with the first shipments of the HPX500, and most of the rest have been pre-ordered already. You just need to check around with the various authorized dealers. You can find a sticky in the HVX news section that will provide a list of some of the authorized dealers.
Call around and see if you can get in on the first shipment.
I'd say your best bet is going to be with smaller/lesser-known dealers. Call around to every dealer you can find until you come up with one that still has unallocated cards coming in.
Just got part of the HVX200 "rebate" from my purchase in March.
Barry, Your "The HVX Book" just arrived via UPS. Because of the long delay I bought your Bootcamp DVD, which seems to cover much of the same teritory. However, the book will let me slow down and absorb the details and examples.
Also included in the UPS package was a letter from Jan at Panasonic. She apologizes for the delay receiving the free P2 card...explaining the huge production backlog of memory chips to put in the 8gb P2.
For the inconvenience, she promises to send the new 16gb card instead on the 8gb in the May/June timeframe.
Having only one 8gb to use until then, that kind of impacts my workflow; however, the end result should be much better. (thanks Jan)
Bottom line, it looks like the production focus is clearly on the new 16gb vs playing catch-up with 8gb. And per Jan, the dates should be in the May/June timeframe.
Initial shortages are definitely inconvenient, but the volume of P2 products should provide a more attractive market for third party product developers to sell in to.
So...do you think it might even get the attention of folks like Apple/FCP?
