brand new 100b with loose tape door

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here, but just bought a DVX100B from proviewdigital.com and I've got issues that I want to confirm as issues.

-The tape door is slightly loose, which makes me worry that while doing handheld work I'll get a clacking noise on tape.

-When you hit the eject button, the door only opens halfway, then you give it nudge and it opens the rest of the way and the tape transport comes out. Worriesome.

-Zoom setting 2 on the handle doesn't work.

As you can imagine, my excitement has been deflated quickly and now I'm looking at having to send it back. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

thanks,

my tape deck only opens a bit as well, its not loose though.

as far as the zoom control, go into the menu.. sw mode.... handle zoom two settings on it there.

with my new 100a if i just turned it on i usually close the tape deck if it does not open and then wait a few seconds and open it again and it works fine.
i am pretty sure that this is not a problem.
and also kdawg is right, you have to go to the menu and make sure that zoom 2 is on.

hate to say it, but no matter how determined someone might be to use a piece of equipment like the dvx for the first time without reading the manual, it might be worth having a quick look at it first before panicing, it has all the information in there that concerns you, however, a loose door sounds like a problem if it really is loose.
i have a dvx100be, the european version and i have had no problems with it, the 2nd setting on the zoom handle feature is by default nothing, but this can be changed in the menus

Dave is correct. Do not panic. 1) The DVX 100b has a two-stage tape compartment door. It first opens halfway then you nudge it along to open all the way. Apparently it was designed this way as being stronger. 2) The center zoom handle switch is set to nothing by default. Go to your menu settings and change it to make the zoom handle center switch the speed you want. 3) Loose door? Very subjective. How loose? Also, just to nip it in the bud, when the camera is off, if you hear a "clunking noise" like a loose part is knocking around inside, that is normal and part of the steadyshot function.

So sorry to hear about your malfunction of your product.
i think you should send it back to the factory asap.
as this is a class 1 product, i dont think it happen to all.
mine is a pal version. so far, its going strong.

If what you mean by loose is that when closed you can push on the door with your finger and it moves just enough to "click" as plastic hits plastic, yeah, I have the same deal going on on.
A rubber gasket around the rim of the door opening would help significantly.
My XL2 has a nicely integrated gasket and the door is as tight as a drum and dust proof.
Although my "A" model did not do this so go figure.
