Brackendale

Hey Disjecta I was only prepared to watch the first 2 mins but I ended up watching the whole thing twice! The contrast between your photography and your wife's is interesting and I can see that it really brings you guys closer together. I too would be interested in what settings you use to shoot that quality of video.

I don't really have a specific set of settings that I use but I rarely use auto exposure. I tend to underexpose by about 1/2 more than the usual stop down for 24PA. It really makes the colors rich. But then again, if a scene is darker, I won't make that choice with exposure.

I have the chroma set to +4 but, other than that, my settings are pretty much at the default setting. I currently have the master pedestal set to -6.

I also creatively use ND filters. I try to combine them so that I can keep the iris as open as it can be to get a shallow depth of field. The dof effect is enhanced when I am at full zoom using my teleconverter.

Acquiring a "sense" for good exposure, in my mind, is the key to getting good footage. That and blocking off your scene to where there is not a lot of contrast. I tend to avoid grey glary skies unless I'm deliberately looking to create a silhouette in the foreground. Of course, there are some grip and rip situations where I just don't have that kind of time to control stuff and, in those cases, I will usually go auto on the exposure but only if my lighting is going to be relatively consistent....otherwise the picture is going to be going dark and light like a strobe :)

Sorry there's no magic settings because it's about mastering photography (which I will try to do for the rest of my life), not pressing buttons and changing menu choices.

So well put Disjecta...
I spent a few years living in Brackedale, and your pix and vid brought back many great memories...thanx

Weird, someone asked about the smooth shots in the forest and now it's gone...they were done with a Glidecam 4000

Really beautiful work. Those 11 minutes were enough to inspire me to find a way to leave Los Angeles and get back into the real world. Thank you.

Well I will only echo what the others have said in saying so, but there is a lot of talent in your family. It is so cool that you found someone who shares a similar passion in which you can relate. Your works compliment one another very nicely. Like I said one day I will hire you to use your eye for beautiful compositions and storytelling with music. btw what was the track before the credit music at the end? Great stuff.

It said you used "killer tracks" for your music. The music in there was really good. What is killer tracks like? Is it royalty free stuff?
