BPAV File Structure & Metadata- Troubleshooting Solution

Hey All,
Looking for my best solution here. Trying to transcode some footage that was shot on an EX-1 into the Avid 5 from a drive and it is missing some components. Received EX-1 footage that is missing full BPAV file structure and some metadata- CUEUP.xml, MEDIAPRO.xml, TAKR folder), but the metadata immediately associated with the .MP4 file is present (.smi, .ppn, .xml, .bim). I am going back to the source to try and get the missing files and understand that plan should be is option #1. In terms of what should be options #2 & 3, etc, this is my first time with this workflow and I have a few lines of thought/questions. Thanks in advance for any help.

1. Can I just make up folders and then procede with the import/transcode? I've heard the missing metadata might not be crucial (info like aperture, shutter speed, etc) and that perhaps the avid would recognize the files?

2. Or do I need to transcode the MP4's to a different codex and if so, what are the best avaliable software options to do that.

3. Or is there a better approach anyone can recommend?

Thanks,
John

First of all, kill the person who offloaded the memory cards. OK, not really but you should tell them next time to either:

A. Use Sony's Clip Browser software ALWAYS when transferring files.

B. If you're going to use the OS's software (like Windows Explorer, say), then you better copy the whole BPAV folder into different folders. So make 26 Card A through Card Z folders (or whatever) and each card's BPAV folder goes in there. If that's too hard just see A. Advice A for the win!

As far as what can be done now? I'm not sure but I can guarantee you if you use the search function you'll find something useful. :-)

I'm not sure how but you should be able to recreate a proper BPAV file with Sony Clip Browser from your MP4 files. Google Craig Seaman he is your man over on the DVinfo EX1 site.

thanks Bruce! will do. once I find anything, I'll post it here for future reference.
