Boycott SmartFlix!

I just came across this site in a search, I have also been scammed by smartflix...I eventually had to report them to the Attorney Generals office...

horrible site...I wish someone would do something about them, or him. It is only one guy...
 
This is my first time hearing about SmartFlix. It seems like their practices are appalling! It's a shame too, because if they were practiced honestly and fairly compensated the creators/producers of the video, the website might be an invaluable resource for how-to's and tutorials.

As things stand, I'll boycotting.
 
Boycott these scumbags.
They don't pay a dime to the people. Big deal, they "bought" one video and are renting it over and over. Not a cent from the rentals goes to the people who make the video. They are smug and arrogant and it would be a treat to see someone take them down. Notice they don't have big companies like Lynda.com on there? Yeah, they can't handle the sh*tstorm of legal they'd be faced with.

They only recourse you have as an author is to have every sale agreed that it will not be copied or "rented." Once purchased, after agreeing, if they rent you now have a binding agreement and can go after them.

Who WOULDN'T rent from you instead?

And like I said, a lot of the authors would probably be willing to donate stock, so the up-front costs on the discs would be minimal.

I'd suggest, too, that it be a separate, independent store. Would look better for marketing purposes than being an add-on to an existing store.

I know this is bringing this thread up from the dead but anyone do a search on this travis corcoran? Funny how things turn out...
