Bought a House

Looks like the house might fall through. On our end. Found out that the area is really bad, crime-wise, after doing some research.

If anyone wants crime reports. Great website. www.crimereports.com.

Yeah, I wasn't going to say anything, as I've never lived there, but Palmdale has a rep of of being full of meth-heads and gang members.

Well, we found another home and are making an offer on it. I know this thread wasn't started by me originally, but since my whole "offer, offer countered, offer falling through" went on in here, I figured I'd update.

good luck brandon. the general rule when it comes to purchasing real estate is get the worst house in the best neighborhood possible.

Yeah, thankfully this is a gorgeous home in a great neighborhood! Going to sign the offer in an hour. Hoping it is accepted!

Well... four months later and today we're supposed to sign loan documents and close by Friday.... hoping nothing surprises us... it's been quite the process. When I have time (probably after we move) I'll post a massive update on how it all went down.

This is only your first home... it gets easier each time.
Bring some ice for your signing hand & best of luck!

Yes, writing off mortgage interest is a good and happy thing. At least, until the Feds and States get sufficiently desperate for revenue to eliminate the deduction.

Well, I am a blockhead! I just found out today that we may be penalized for not giving a 60 day written notice at our apartment. However, our 6 month lease expires at the end of this month, and I've paid for this month in full. What do you think? Any advice here? They have what is called an "early termination" but we aren't terminating the lease since it expires at the end of December.

My understanding is that once the lease is done, if you don't re-up you are then on a month-to-month deal and not required to give notice.

But that's just my understanding.

Depends on what the lease says. It may auto-renew for another 6 months. Or it may just go MTM. I'd bet you'll be on the hook for at least another month in any case, though.
