Bought a House

i wish i could sell the shanty i live in and get a nice craftsman style house. if i were to list mine for sale, does anyone know if plywood counts a hardwood floor?

anyways, congrats on the houses.

I really like my house, but I was surprised at how quickly it went from some ethereal heaven that I floated around in... feet not touching the floor... wondering how I ever got so lucky to live here... (skip a couple months)... to nail-poppa-polooza... carpet stains... and assorted mayhem and maintenance.

I think I had the exact opposite experience. While I've owned the home I live in for 9 years (bought it for the mother in law), this is the 1st year I've actually lived in it. Renovating it, finishing the basement and doing all the upkeep has given me an appreciation for my home I've never had before. I take more pride in it, because I worked on it. I'm someone who before this rarely picked up a hammer to do anything, and in the past year learned how to frame a wall, insulate, hang drywall, run electrical, put in flooring, carpeting, ceilings, hung doors, even a little plumbing. I enjoy it far more than I thought I would and have become a DIY Network junkie. It's also comforting to know I can now fix a lot of things around the house myself. I suppose it would be different if I had a physically taxing job, but I basically sit on my ass 8 hours a day, so it's nice to do some actual physical labor now and again.

Also, I'd give a thumps up to bamboo. I put in pergo (got an insane deal) and it looks fine for now. But a relative put in Bamboo and boy does it look nice.

You might be surprised how many people find it utterly mystifying...

I had to install a light bulb once. Who knew they SCREWED IN?! I pushed and pushed until it exploded in my hand and I got electrocuted when my fingers plunged into the bottom of the socket.

I learned one thing that day my friends... always wear safety glasses.

Yes, this is very true... but it's "cut-twice"... measuring twice is a waste of time.

Hey since you gave a serious reply to my joke-post, now I have to say that yes, I was joking about EVERY aspect of the light-bulb post. I'm actually more handy then an ambidextrous handyman. :)

A few months ago, I took a key to a locksmith to make a copy. The guy had an old, obvious injury and was possibly blind in one eye. I didn't ask, but my guess was that he didn't think safety glasses were very cool. He didn't wear them when he made my copy.

Here in Israel, it's not considered "cool" to protect your eyes, ears, lungs, and hands. I see construction workers cutting metal with circular saws with no protection whatsoever. Sparks are flying but hey, they're cool.

Congrats on the house, Max! Maybe you can update with pictures after you've finished all the work you plan.

Darwin, hard at work...Another thing I learned, if a book tells you to do something a certain way, there's usually a reason, so follow the damn directions. More than once I tried to do a shortcut, then realized, oh, that's why I had to do that.

Some pix offa the realty site...needless to say we'll be taking better ones...

its literally the house from pulp fiction no?

The Pulp Fiction hotel where Butch stayed was in Silver Lake, just under the Hyperion bridge. They tore it down right after filming. And my buddy at the time lived right next to the building where Vincent and Jules killed those kids, which was also torn down. It was across from the Denny's next to the 101 Freeway on Sunset.

You'll have to set up somewhere else, then. Can't have bad neighbors breaking in and ripping off your meth lab...

Well, good luck with the hunt. Seems like for the time being prices are going nowhere but down, so that works in your favor.
