Both SDX900 and Varicam wont let me write new Scene File to card?

I keep getting the write protect message but the write protect switch is off on the card.. is there a specific way i need to format the card in order for it to read/write properly with the panasonic cameras? its a generic 512MB off amazon.

I seem to remember there was a limit to the size of card you could use - maybe 512mb is too big? Hard to believe these days that 512mb card would be too big lol!
