Im trying to get Boris Continuum Complete for AVX 1.5 to install with Media composer. Each time I install it it stops media composer and says to install from the original CD, which I am doing. I thought in the past I may have needed a patch or something but I cant find anything

is everything else already installed?
also, you don't happen to be runnin old Ice effects do ya?

It wont work with Media Composer 3.0.5 End of Story

However I was able to purchase Boris version 5 and a few other softwares from the Avid store for $199

Also,

By installing Media Composer, I lost Avid 3D, and can't install it back onto my computer while Media Composer is installed. Nice thinking Avid, I only had like 5 projects that I needed from Avid 3D...

Grinner I'm slowly and quietly switching in 2009 away from Avid. I'll still keep my Avid applications, but when a company forces new software at you, that doesnt work with their other software I purchased less than 1 year ago, I'm sensing a serious common sense issue at Avid. Furthermore, I'm sensing a common sense issue on my part for continuing the nonsense this long...

I hear you. I've tried(and discarded) more than a couple of NLE's. I don't know what it is with these NLE software makers, but, they just don't seem to understand their customer base. It's as if the software writers are just that, programmers, and not users. And the decision makers are neither software writers nor videographers. At least, AVID has made the move towards better appearances with an active customer forum.

Eric, you came into this at the wrong time, my friend. I promise you'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of Avid than me ten years ago. When you began posting, they had already turned the company a direction not aiming upward anymore. With everyone of your posts, I felt your pain. You began wanting to do HD.
whew.
All I can tell you is I have around 50k sunk in my Avid. I cannot offer HD services. I cannot author a DVD without losing a genration first. I can't even hack a down and dirty session without crashing or nursing known buggage. That said, brother back in the day, I could beat the dog out of my Avid for weeks without so much as a reboot. The meridien line did everything it was advertised to do. When it was killed before an alternative was created, it ended a great run of a great company.
Head up. FCP on a capable lil machine doesn't have to cost ya a whole lot. A friend of mine just built an SD set up for less than 6k. It has limitations, as all set ups do, but his little set up does everything it was advertised to do... unlike those of us who own modern Avid products.

My system is paid off now. Sweet. So I am milking it as long as I can. But man there is no way I'll buy another Avid product when this one finally croaks. They are not a company that is going to get any better. We saw the best of Avid in 1994.
