Bored on Sunday.

So my roommates and I were bored today and decided to build a Red One camera package we have lying around from a previous gig. Since we also own a Red One, we took advantage of building another and having fun.

We have a plant in the backyard which attracts humming birds, so we figured we would shoot out the backdoor with a RedOne mysterium sensor camera and a 24-290mm angenieux zoom. We added a 2x doubler and shot around the 500mm area.

The other camera didn't have the luxury of a long zoom lens, so we outfitted it with a Cooke S4 100mm and put it on our geared head just for fun.

We shot at 2k 120fps with a shutter speed of 1/600th a second, or something like that. Camera A was at 800-1000 iso, daylight. Looked great.

I'll post a link to the video or some stills, once my editor roommate gets it all through a quick edit in post.

Ahhh gearhead - envy.

Frank

p.s would you mind to put it on vimeo or something else?
I just canceled my facebook account.

Yeah... I'll def post a vimeo video in the near future. We have yet to get all the footage through post anyhow. We got a cool shot of a hummingbirds tongue sticking out of its mouth. Crazy strange!

haha...will definately watch when it's available. i may have to shoot my own hummingbird footage (we have tons here) on my tiny GH1, and compare, just for fun. I don't mind laughing at myself every now and then ;-)

That is a comically long zoom lens haha. How does it look? I was thinking about using that same zoom for this upcoming project I am doing on the red, but its size could be a problem.

That's the dream. But I've found myself 1st ACing a bunch these days. I want a short or feature narrative so badly. I've been bored lately.

WARNING INTERVENTION:

So whats holding you back?

-You have the gear and crew
-I am sure you have plenty of good ideas
-If you are bored, you have time in your hands
-If you are busy you are making money and can build a budget for your project

Here is an idea:

-Set up a blog here and establish a timeline. That way you will be accountable to the DVX community and feel the push to make your film.

GO FOR IT DUDE!!!

And you live in LA... from what I understand, if you throw a rock, just right, you would hit a writer, actors, and the rest of a crew, all looking for creative stuff to do, on one throw!

Don't know about Ryan situation, but just having a set of equipment is only part of the battle...

The other parts are:

1) time, since one is 'making money' but has no time for one's own projects.
2) So Cal... almost anywhere costs money. The city/county officials in most of the greater So Cal (and California in general) are really 'tuned' to movies, and even if the fees are rather minimal, most require at least insurance, and further an insurance rider naming the governmental agency as a beneficiary, this costs money to have insurance, and then costs more typically to have named riders.

3) Depending on the actor's union status, if one uses a SAG member, one has to basically setup a film production entity and promise to pay said actor if and when money comes to the film.

4) even renting private locations and not going the officially permitted film route, may allow for a cheaper way, but if you have visible 'movie' activity, you may be asked for your permit... and fines as well as equipment siezures could ensue.

And speaking of renting, some people are aware of the 'value' of their property is relative to 'movie making'... or at least think their property is so valued...

Some how a Red camera is not one I've heard too much along the lines of 'guerilla' run and gun film making on the streets...

GO up to the desert and film a movie. I just finished my first feature and I think the total cost for 8 days of filming in LA and Lancaster was $3500. Food Gas Hotel, 1 paid location.
