boom or lavs

Lav preferred if on TV reality sets where multiple people have the same amount of lines and are at multiple locations at the same time. Boom on main character.

Majority, I prefer boom because of warmth and less RF issues. You get your exercise too.

that's all about situation - you work what sounds best or could be used at all .
its usable or its not
for example on today shot inside the bus when the camera handheld and the lance is 18mm the boom is useless and work only to get additional footsteps on broken glass while the lav it self sits on the person who dont talk and carry out by other one which have rustle clothes .

Ted,

Cardioid lav are not used much in production due to high handling and wind noise. They can work well for a sit down interview in a high noise or reverbarant enviornment.

I prefer a boom if at all possible, especially for sit down or stand up interviews. A lav does not even come close, not even a sanken cos11. I use a schoeps hyper for everything.

i just got used to lavs recently because it really bothers me when i hear all that background noise. even though i use boom it is still there. I know 7560 headphones have very wide range and a lot of stuff wont be heard on the speakers. it all depends on situation what can be used . I use sanken cos11 and I like the way they sound at least comparing to other lavs.

At this point, I generally throw both in on everything - even if the boom can't get in appropriately close - still provides a good scratch track for ADR. But, to save time, all actors with dialog are wired before we start - it just makes it easier and gives post a wide variety of options. That, and most of the time I am using a novice boom op so it gives me added protection.
