Boom mic

Looking for recommendations for a good overhead boom mic for interviews.
Not looking to break the bank though.

Thanks a bunch!

There are many different types of mics. This is constantly covered here and a search of this forum would yield much info.
Interior or exteriors? What are you recording to? About how much would 'break the bank'?

Audio Technica 875R

Good low cost gen purpose small shotgun that sounds good indoors and out, I have five of them and also use the rode PG/2 pistol grip and the W/S 6 softie.

For booming interviews, my list, from top to bottom is:

Schoeps CMC641
Sennheiser MKH50
Audio Technica AT4053b
Audix SCX-1 HC
Oktava MK-012 with HC capsule

These are not shotgun mics. I would not use a shotgun unless I was on a well-damped soundstage or very controlled environment. Here's why: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaUSXP-a3hA

Very useful information.
Now I remember seeing this some time ago.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Ty's the man, learned a lot from his posts. If you PM me I can send you a short wav sample from a Rode NTG3 in the Rode Blimp in a small hotel suite...echo chamber room but the key was having the mic close to the people and I have to say the audio is pretty darn decent...no discernible echo. I had a zaxcom zfr100 with stereo adapter hooked up to an SD302 mixer, one channel to camera, one to ZFR. The audio I have for you is from the ZFR, had it set to -20 dbfs at zero on the mixer's meter, so had to boost it by 18 db with RN Finis.
