Anyone have any suggestions on a good boom mic? I have an HPX170...

PLEASE help. Thanks.

The only answer anyone can give you based on your current question is "It depends." Please check out the relevant stickies and search a bit. When you still have questions after that, post again and try to give at least some information on what it is you want to shoot, location types, etc.

Your question, as asked, appears to be completely answered by the sticky Q/As. Read the "stickies" FIRST. That is why they are there! THEN come back and tell us what questions or issues they DIDN'T answer.

There is no particular microphone that goes with a particular camera. It's like saying: I have a Volkswagen. Can anyone recommend a good garage door opener?

Great reply - but naming he camera *does* actually help.

For instance, you would not recommend an MKH 60 for a £500 consumer camcorder -or, the other way round - you would not recommend an MKE 300 or Rode videomic for a pro or semi-pro camera costing £2,000 or so.

If you are looking at a low budget option I would strongly suggest the Rode NTG-2, it offers great sound quality for it's price (about $250)

If you are looking at mid budget and want professional sound I would suggest the Rode NTG-3 (about $700). It is highly recommended among alot of people here and many people will tell you it sounds similar to the Sennheiser 416, here is a test of the two side by side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbzNgmrCBQs

If you want top of the line and money is not an issue I would say the Schoeps CMIT5u. (about $2,150)
