Book cover in post?

Hi

I'll be filming a bunch of books in a shelf. But I wanna change the titles and things so they appear as something else. If I did have a means to go to printing house and print new original book covers, but im running out of time atm and need to know if changing the title of books is possible in ae.
How real or smooth would it look?

I hope you get my drift lol

Depends on how you shoot it. If it's a static shot, then that wouldn't take much work at all.

However if you plan on doing a camera move then you're probably looking into some 2d or 3d tracking. That could take some time to get a realistic effect.

And of course if the bookshelf gets obstructed by anything in the foreground then you're also looking to do some roto work as well.

So without further information on how this shot is going to look, it's hard to provide much advice.

Take pictures of the books, then build "3D" models in AE (just boxes, really) or blender (Cinema4D, 3DSM if you have them) out of those images. Use a camera inside AE to pan them. Add some ambient lighting and allow shadows.

Im planning on a smooth dolly work in that shot. But if it makes it more difficult and harder to get it realistic, i can change it to static shot.

What else is in the shot? Is there anything besides the book shelf? Is there other motion in the shot?

This is exactly the kind of thing that is very easy to do as a practical, on camera, but will take a lot of time & effort in post.

Make up the titles in Photoshop or Illustrator & go to your nearest Kinkos to print them out.
