Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

@Razz16mm
i really like image that kodak sensor produce ...looks more organic than any other camera ...but lets compare things BMD make their prototype 6-7 month ago and its only ready for shipment now... many of camera parts are used and tested in their other products ...BD still didnt make real prototype with their own components ...it would be miracle if they ship in november ...and don't forget we are comparing establish company vs start up....

I don't expect to see cameras available for retail sale before about NAB next year. The KS supporters will probably get theirs this year. If you are not on the early reservation list for the BMD you are not likely to get one before next year either.

Both of these are very interesting cameras to me. May wind up with one of each. I do have still lenses I could use with the BMC. But I also have a cabinet full of vintage 16mm cine glass that I really look forward to playing with.

I like the look of the Kodak sensor too. I watched that beautiful CO fashion piece and shortly afterwards happened to see a trailer for Cowboys and Aliens. One of the scenes in that trailer had a color and texture quality amazingly similar to the Ikonoskop footage. If the software and firmware for the Digital Bolex is as good as Joe wants it to be, the camera will be able to produce very film like image quality.

One of the advantages of CCD over CMOS is very high pixel to pixel consistency which makes achieving high image quality a bit easier. It is much more difficult to correct pixel inconsistency in CMOS as you have to separately correct each individual pixel for output level and noise.

I agree that you probably won't get the Blackmagic this year unless you pre-ordered, but given this latest update, I highly suspect no one will have a Digital Bolex until at least 1st or 2nd quarter 2013.

Yep, nowhere near a November launch.

Regardless of launch date, if they send out cameras that work they will be beating the Kickstarter odds for a project of this magnitude.

Look how long Red was pimping 3k for 3k and never delivered on that, and they are a well funded company.

Joe said in April that the Kickstarter cameras would likely be the only ones delivered this year. Worldwide retail distribution is definitely a next year thing.

I have a question for those who donated money to the Kickstarter campaign.
How do you feel right now?

Same as I did at the beginning, I'm very busy and have a lot to be getting on with while I wait and with the recent updates on the DB forum the camera is looking better and better. Oct/Nov no problem!

Update:

All I really want to see is new footage from this camera, like what it can really do... All that matters

Ouch.

Cables coming out on the wrong side, like the BMC.
Can someone please hire a designer, that does not come from a 5D?
I mean really, did those kids ever use a real camera on a proper set?

Shaking head.

The camera looks absolutely gorgeous. I think they hired a designer... that may not come from the camera world at all.

Tis very nice, but the cabling is on the wrong side and the chrome may be an issue with stray light

At least he had the nouse to use two tripod holes on the bottom
