Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

250GB can store a bit over 50 minutes - and I guess it's continually dumping to CF, even while you record, but we probably won't know until there are cameras in the wild

Let's hope it copies the data to the CF card before erasing it off the SSD. I'd hate to have the camera transferring to CF and the battery dies in the middle.

In the IT world, that problem is usually solved by using a transaction framework where the copy process sends a signal that the transaction is complete before deleting the original file.

I agree that this project doesn't seem far fetched since mature IT components have now become commoditized. It's now about leveraging such technology in a novel way.

This is what Apple basically does every year. They leverage existing tech in a novel way. (Final Cut Studio excluded ;) )

Pledge released! Have at it, fellas. Best wishes to those still participating in the campaign.

Is anyone else pulling out of their camera pledge ? if so please PM me with the time it is in your country (i'm in the UK) and the exact time you will be canceling, please give me a bit of warning.

I've missed the 3 cancelled pledges this week already, dam >!

Quick question about the sensor size and coverage,

The Bolex D16 has a Kodak CCD sensor: 12.85 mm x 9.64 mm

Super 16 (Film) is: 12.52 mm x 7.41 mm

Now I know alot of C-Mount 10mm lenses will not cover Super 16mm film but will the slightly bigger Kodak sensor be covered by a 16mm/18mm C-Mount lens ?

C-mount lenses made for 1" format video cameras will cover it, those made for 16mm film or 2/3" video cameras may not cover the full 2k format but will cover the 1080p cropped format. The active 2k sensor area is smaller than the dimensions listed, falling about half way between standard 16mm image circle diameter and S16mm image circle diameter, so many 16mm lenses will cover it, but the wide angle ones will probably vignette at 2k.

About to release my $2500 pledge. I'll wait about 30 minutes before releasing mine if anyone would like to coordinate with me a certain time for releasing it.

Pledge released.
Could’ve been someone else, but last night because of the 1 remaining I was able to downgrade from the $3,500 level to $2,500, so thanks!

And now there are 4 left just sitting there with 5 days to go, when they used to be sold out. Funny how people get excited early then flee at the last minute. Can’t say I’m not considering it myself in the wake of some of the other 2K RAW cameras coming out…

I've got some C-Mount lens concerns for the D16 I could do with some help on, done plenty of research but still getting mixed opinions?

Firstly it looks like everyone is going mental for a fast 25mm 0.95, prices going through the roof. The Angenieux and the Xenon 25mm's seem to be the most sought after 'normal' lens for the forthcoming 2k C-Mount cameras. isn't the Angenieux quite soft wide open making the price a waste of time over a Xenon 25mm F1.5 ?

Secondly, I don't really know anything about how professional TV or CCTV lenses are for the D16 or any 2K digital camera with same sensor size, are the M25 Zeiss Tevidon 25mm and 16mm suitable ?

And is the C-Mount for TV lenses slightly longer/shorter making fitting and infinity a problem on the D16 ?

I know all about the difference and extra optic in the C-Mount Kern Switar RX lenses over the standard Kern Switar Ar's so ok there, seems the standard Switars are the only sure C-Mounts at the moment, please assist with knowledge if you know any better.

The danger with c-mount security lenses is that you might end up with CS-mount instead. CS is a much shorter mount and CS lenses cannot be used on c-mount cameras. C-mount lenses can be adapted to CS bodies, but CS lenses cannot be adapted to C bodies.

Nice of you to come in on this Barry - Are the Zeiss Tevidon m25 16mm/25mm/100mm C or CS-Mounts ? and are they TV/CCTV lenses ?

What do you think on the C-Mount Xenon's v Zeiss Tevidon's for the D16

I see they are STILL saying this was shot on a prototype, when it WASN'T, it was shot on an existing camera, and they admitted it when it was pointed out here. If they really want people to believe in them, perhaps they shouldn't be continuing with misrepresentations. Just saying...

Oh gosh somewhere on page 20 ish of the thread...someone posted the Digital Bolex response to one of our users pointing out the industrial camera in the photos....I'll try to find it....phew, what a long thread!
