Bolex D16: RAW, 16/Super 16 sensor size, costs less than MkIII

Ya..I was very, very close to buying an Ikono a few months ago..I love that camera's look.

what are some lenses people will want to use on this camera. Will it be possible to use 16mm glass?

What mount is it (the same as the old bolex film cameras)? I have a box of vintage 16mm glass lying around somewhere I need to dig out.....

It's c-mount, pl, ef and b4, so I'm sure your lenses will fitt.

I would jam a shoulderpad under it, evf on the side, vmount batt on the back for balance and a tophandle.

If the image going to look exactly like the ikonoskop than DB is my dream cam. Most beautifull image imho.
The sensor is Kodac CCD, but I could not find if the ikonoskop is Kodac. I guess the IQ also depend for a big part on the software.

The Ikonoskop has big problems with recording devices wich is to bad if you want to do quick and cheap projects. Hope the DB does work fine with a samurai or ninja or so.

It's sensor is from the same line as the one in the Ikonoskop but isn't the same model.

Also, not all old regular 16mm lenses will cover super 16. I was really tempted to pick up an A-cam over the holidays but had a change of hart upon discovering most of my old C-mount lenses wouldn't cover the sensor.

One interesting thing which came out of it though was when I inquired about the 60fps software upgrade that had been promised but never materialized; the Ikonoskop guy said it was still on the cards but would require an additional hardware upgrade; could the Ikonoskop be receiving a new sensor at some point???!

Turns out I'm wrong, the ATV Proscilica that shoots 1920x1080 uses a Kodak KAI-02150 not the KAI-04050.

I believe both the D16 and Ikonoskop are using ths same chip.

At 1920x1080 both the Ikonoskop and the D16 fit within the standard 16mm format image circle. True 16mm format C-mount lenses should work just fine, C-mount TV lenses for 2/3" format may not cover. Older extreme wide angle film lenses may shade a bit in the corners on a digital sensor. This can be corrected in post though.
The D16 2k format does require S16mm lenses.

Just a few updates: Firmware is up and running, they are now tweaking to get the image where they want it. Illya Friedman has agreed to design the PL Mount for the camera, and Joe is working on an M4/3 mount.

Great to hear. Sounds like you guys are at the final touch. Any idea when the first footage is going public?
