Bokeh Test

I'm not sure if this has been done before, but the first thing I did when my new HVX arrived today was attempt a bokeh test. There's no apparent spherical aberration, which is awesome and it looks fairly neutral. I'm following the guidelines of Ken Rockwell's tutorial: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/bokeh.htm

However, it does not appear to have a circular shape. I personally don't mind this. Any thoughts?

Oh before I forget, I didn't even have to read the manual to figure out how to use this camera. I do have one question. I haven't gone looking for it yet, but how do I turn on the focus guide that does the zebra stripes? I've read about it here, and I just didn't notice it in the menus yet. I'll search for ideas on using detail coring and such elsewhere.

Thanks again to all who recommended places for me to purchase the camera.

I'm working out focusing the stock lens. It's been good times so far.

It looks like the cams iris was stopped down from fully wide, this give that type of bokeh, looks like a 6 blade iris. Im talking from experience of 35mm lenses here, not sure how directly this applies to a HVX200 iris.

Zebras are not in the menu (only the configuration for the zebras is), you activate the zebras using a dedicated button on the side of the camera.

Ah, I better try that again. I must've bumped the iris dial or forgot to open it all the way. This time it's open all the way for sure. Ok, refresh the image.

It's not as good as the last image, but the nice circular gaussian drop-off appears to be a part of the stock lens. Good deal!

The reason for this test was to see if the bokeh was bad on the lens itself.

So far my evaluation is that the stock lens appears to be capable of wide angle shots to a somewhat long lens with a shallow depth of field. However, I think I'm still going to eventually get a 35mm adapter to make it easier to control depth.

Again, thanks for the troubleshoot Wayne. Now if only I could get an SGPro.
