Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

I think it was around Z10.. if I remember correctly.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Jarred

Need some 4x4 filters. Like 1 stop soft grad, polarizer etc.. When and what will be the pricing for your Formatt filters?
A DVXuser battery user.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Ok Question pls . . .

So if we invest in a formatt box and filters, we are happy as long as the anamorphic adapter doesn't come out of it's pouch, and that suits me fine. The problem I am forseeing is that although having another eventual mattebox for the adapter is not the end of the world, re investing in a fresh set of filters & grads would be a pain and a must as formatt needs a particular set of its own, am I right in saying so?

So Formatt box plus set of filters plus second eventual matte box plus second set of fliters would cost what?

As much as the chroziel deal, or am I compleatly off track in thinking that one chroziel matte box would fit all situations, i.e. the camera both with and without the adapter?

can some one fill me in on this?  I am thinking of getting the 4x4 Cavision matte box - is there an issue with it?

I intend to use the lens fully zoomed out most of the time - so if there is vingetting, that will be a problem.

I also need to use a polarizer and be free to rotate it with out any issues - is this matte box going to work for me?
thnx

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

No, there is no issue. Just be sure to get the adapter that is meant for the XL1, it is not as deep as the actual DVX adapter and there for works great. Yes the cavision has a rotating stage and, no there are no issues. Great box.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Now what is the issue with depth of Cavision for DVX?
You said to get on for Xl1? Shouldn't they be designed deep/not deep enough for each cam to avoid vignetting? Just want to clarify why we should jump to a different cam based box? Seems to me Cavision is between Chrosziel and Formatt price wise but has less glitches that we are facing with Formatt.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Huh? I was just trying to address the issue of the Cavision. It has no problems on my cam, terry at the DVshop in Toronto suggested I use the adapter ring meant for the XL1, it is shallower so the box is closer to the lens and there for no vignetting. The Formatt sounds like it has some teething pains, but once those are fixed it should be every bit as good, and it does have a slight edge in the cool department, plus it is cheaper!

Hey matthew, do you have all the episodes of the Young Ones? I love that show.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Well i am waiting for a full review and Jarred to update us fully on his method of avoiding the microphone problem. Also loading the filters from the bottom seems unnatural though i don't own a box so maybe it isn't a big deal after all. Price definitely looks good but Cavision looks better heh! How much do adapters for the xl1 and dvx if you buy both to test?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

still waiting for that stupid adapter..

Loading filters from the bottom isnt a big deal unless you use rods for a followfocus etc. It doesnt feel right, and is awkward because you gotta kinda bend over and look up to put them in, but Im sure if you tried it a few times you could do it without looking.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

What about the modification for sideflags - the gentleman from Formatt at the DVExpo said it was an easy modification at a minimal cost. However one of the sales managers from Bogen said that it would be a special order. I noticed two indentation marks on either side of the box. I believe this is where the would mount to. How easy would it be to punch thru the aluminum to add the side doors?

I was referring to the 3x3 mattebox by cavision. There are problems with vignetting

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

the aluminum is very thin so there shouldnt be a problem drilling little holes. Cavision's flags do however compress fit so you could use the cavision flags on the bogen without needing to drill.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

or just get the matteblox supersized flag and velcro the sucker on there.

no light shall pass.

Any word, Jarred?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Jarred--Bogen is normally fantastic about sending out parts. If your stuff is supposed to come from Bogen in NJ, you can try talking to George in the parts department at 201-818-9500. You can also explain the situation and specify the parts you're expecting and fax them at 201-818-9177 with Attention: Parts Department on the coversheet.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

Doesn't seem like Bogen is providing good customer service. It's been over three weeks, hasn't it?

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

I'm certain that Bogen Imaging are doing their best in this effort. I know for a fact that they have been working directly with Formatt in the UK to find a way to make this work on the DVX100/A.

I am equally certain that they are going to say that no known combination of step-down rings added to the end of the lens is going to not vignette and that while it is odd, it's perfectly OK to use the FM-500 with the standard adapter so long as you're willing to change filters from the bottom.

For the price being offered, I'm willing to use it under those conditions.

Re: Bogen Formatt 4x4 Matte Box

all i did was ask them for a step up ring,, and they where very fast in telling me it shipped, but maybe its just lost or something.
