Bogen 503 head, which quick release plate holder?

I've got a bogen 503 tripod head that I use with a quick release plate. I'd like to buy another quick release holder to put on my shoulder brace for fast setups and breakdowns. The only thing online I can find is this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/241139-REG/Manfrotto_577_577_Rapid_Connect_Adapter.html Which says its for removing the camera from the head without removing the plate. Is this what I need?

Are there off brands which are compatible with my 503 release plate?

Thats what you need.

If you lost the camera adapter plate then you would get this.

I don't think the Giottos MH621 will fit. They are about half the price. Im getting one this weekend so I can report back if it does since I have the 501 and the adapter.

Manfrotto now has a long plate and a short plate, and either will work, though the short version is less $$ and is a better fit on the smaller heads.

The Giottos plates aren't interchangeable.

I own two of 'em. They come with an extra plate as well.

The biggest problem with the 577 is the release-lock knob - you can't use the 577 on a flat surface that's larger than the plate, since the knob spins around fully to engage. On my crane, I have the 577 up on a 3/4 plywood block.

Google CPM Film Tools - they make a carbon fiber "knockoff" that's about $30, and I believe it uses an allen wrench to tighten, avoiding the flat-surface problem. CPM makes good stuff.

The basic design of all of the quick release systems are so bad. Both the Bogan and Giottos are to thin and the knob to tighten cant clear either the camera or the base of the head. If they made the base as thick or as tall as the knob then it would clear both the camera and the head. So basic. WHY!!!!!!
