Bog-like humidity and the DVX.

Hello-

I feel like a bastard’s bastard, and I understand that I should here be researching the answer to my question I seek to ask..... but I’m still in Mexico, likely suffering from some sort of Mexican sleeping-sickness. I’ve been up for days, trying to work, like a sickened dog. But I think I do suffer from having a valid question, and I can’t look up the answer on this board, as I’m roaming on the equatorial “digicel” network, at $3.50 USD a minute, no ****..... just to browse. So, here is my question.... I took the camera out of the bag, quicker than I should’ve. I’m no neophyte in this regard, but I’m not a DVX despot, as it were. I’m trying to focus.... ok. I didn’t give my DVX the correct amount of time to acclimate to where I’ve been shooting. Central Mexico. And yes, I do know better than to do what I’ve done. I’d ripped my new DVX out of the bag, whilst it was still cold, and attempted to shoot my BEAUTIFUL IMAGES with it, without the proper, aforementioned acclamations. So, almost instantly, the lens fogged up.... and I knew then to run and hide the camera. After I’d let it cool down, I was so lucky to gaze upon the massive video dropouts in the footage that I’d shot in the heavy air. And I’m not trying to have a soul and say nice things! Um, I’m a tad drunk. And I likely have picked up some sort of gastrointestinal disorder. But this is besides the point. I’ve been having a minor freakout about my camera for 2 days, and this guy I know has been kind of prodding me to get over this sort of CAMERA-SHAME and ask for help. So.... um..... I’m obviously paranoid, because I used to exclusively only use Sony trv-900 cams. You laugh at me, though I love them. They’re tiny, and you can kick them, and they’ll still likely work. But, in the end, there’s a flaw in their design, and tape crinkle and massive, EVIL dropouts are eventually in store. I’m scared that I’ve marred my new DVX. It had 2 hours on the heads, before my cardinal mishap. It has about 35 seconds of dropped footage, taken from the EVIL, bog-like Mexican air. I’d went nuts, and shot about another 45 minutes of myself freaking out, as a test, without a hitch. Regardless, I’m still suspect! So, finally my question is.... will that 35 bad seconds cause me problems anytime soon? I’m not worried so much about the heads.... do you think there’s any sort of detritus that’s sticking to the capstan or any other cogs? And no, I really don’t feel like taking apart my new DVX, because I love it.... and I actually sort of fear it. It’s not really an urgent thing, because the work I’m doing is um..... I’m in MEXICO, shi*ting my guts out, because I’m supposed to film “barn swallows,” as they somehow have become *accidentals* in certain parts of Mexico, and the Mexican government wants them all to die a death, and magically, someone from Virginia wants me to try to make it a point to make them be cute. It’s really not a very long story. Here lies my mark:

AWESOME.

So, what this means for me is that I have some sort of Equatorial disease, my camera is freaking me out and barn-swallows fly so fast that I’ll never be able to take beautiful images of them. And yes, I apologize. You try to shoot barn-swallows after 6 mojitos with a camera you think is broken and then shame yourself amidst a board where people knew twice as much as you do. Damned swallows. Winged manticores! Um.... I can only shame myself so hard at this sort of interval. I like dvxuser.com, and hope someone can tell me what to do about my camera. I’ll surely be more lucid in regards to explaining my idiocy, if someone were to offer advice. YES!

Thanks, mike f.

Drunken posts are the best.

More.... MORE!

I have no advice. It seems the camera is working. You know what you did wrong. Put the beer down and dont F up again.

Or pick up a few more beers and post some more.

This story needs closure.
What happened? Did you sucumb to dissentary? Was your camera stolen by a toothless bandito driving a pickup truck? Or did you run out of pesos to feed the "digicel" network?
Please post back, the world needs to know how your story plays out.
