BNC socket on 500 too deep to lock...

In the past, I have never really worried about locking down the connector ring on the BNC cables while in the studio. But now I have one of the 500's mounted on a crane, and connected to another 500 via BNC cables to lock the TC. Well now the cables work lose when I raise and lower the crane, but... my fat fingers can only get one ring locked, but the one, just to the left is too close to get to with fingers (at least mine).

So, before I grab the hammer and pliers, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Brad

there apparently are some differences in the Cable side of the connector. I have noticed that with some cabbles there is no issue and with others there is. Look around at the cable ends themselves, some sleeves are longer in the middle than others.

Hope that helps,

Jan

I may try and find some 90degree couplers for the cameras that have the longer sleeves. I'd rather have the cables routed down as opposed to straight out horizontally anyway.

Thanks for the response - I'll put the hammer away now :-)

LOL.....i don't even have fat fingers and i find it to short.
It's not that the BNC cable fitting is to short......it's that the fitting no the HPX500 is set in to far.
I don't feel so bad now, I thought it was me.

PS......you can get longer fittings....:furious3:

Actually from the build perspective, it is out as far as it will go. Longer connectors are needed to make this easier.

Best,

Jan

Yes they are set deep into the housing I agree, But what i do is use a connector that has a deeper depth, no big deal, just a pain. and to avoid accidents sling the cable thru the top handle so no strain is put on the connector, better safe than sorry.

Sheesh I thought I was the only one that had this problem. Both of our cables won't lock. It's never been a deal breaker but it has always been annoying.

If the sockets were just spaced a little farther apart I could probably get it turned. But if there was some chamfer, or indentation to make room for fingers and just a little more space, the depth would not be a problem.

after a scary incident a while back where someone stepped on a cable that was trailing behind me, I started keeping a bnc to rca female connector on my sdi out, I then use a bnc to rca male cable to connect to my monitor. This way, if the cable gets tugged, it releases and nothing gets hurt.

additionally, with the hpx500s deep bnc sockets, it makes for an all around easier connection.
