BMX outdoors @ night?

Looking for quick help. I am filming my 10 year old son racing tonight, outdoors, with probably some rain/drizzle. What would be your best settings for this? I would like to do some slow-mo later in Premiere 2.0 and I have seen on DVXuser that 24p isn't the best for it?
I haven't got a steadicam ready so tripod it is and some run and gun handheld (yuck).
thanks in advance
I have the 100b and he has been racing for about 9 months.

slow mo=

30p in 24p timeline gives you 80%
60i into AE gives you 50%

use higher shutter speed if u go the 60i route, which will also mean higher ap. since its overcast outdoors.

Yes, you probably want to shoot 60i at a 120 shutter speed for slo-mo. That combination gives you the best results when you use it in the 24p timeline. That will give you a slowdown of 40% (in a 30p a 50% slowdown as mentioned above). Shooting in 60i will also allow you better low light capture.

I remember reading that 24p had better low light capture???
I went with 60i but didn't get the response in time so didnt set the faster shutter. I went 1/60 and it was good because there was not much light. I previewed on the TV and was very impressed with capture and no noise.
Saturday he races again and there will be daylight!

60i has better low-light performance than 24p does, in general.

If you go into slow-shutter mode you can get more sensitivity in 24p mode, but then the motion starts to get really, really smeary. In normal circumstances a DVX in 60i mode will deliver about twice the brightness as it would in 24p mode.
