BMW Films fan-film preproduction

Well hey, Pappy. Welcome aboard! As Pappy was saying we don't have any POV shots for the driver, but over the shoulders, which I much prefur. You all probably know people who turn their noses up to your DVX for being handheld. Well, I would like to see someone do this with a Sony DSR 390!

Tell me more about these BMW fan films? I have the Clive Owen DVD and the short BMW films are highly stylized and really great.

I don't know of any other BMW Films fan-films, but this is sort of one, but sort of not. They were obviously a marketing campaign for BMW, which this is not. It is also inspired by Ronin and The Transporter mostly, but due to the run time, style, and of course glamour shots of a car that happens to be a BMW, it kind of turned into a BMW Films fan film.

Specifically, we reference Star and Ambush mostly, directed by Guy Richie and John Frankenheimer respectively. Ang Lee makes a mean ninja movie, but a lame car chase.

Thanks, Pappy, for the suggestion on an over-the-shoulder set-up. I went back to the Filmtools site and sure enough the 4.5" is rated at 40 lbs. My bad. :violent5:

Is the equipment easy to set-up with that Filmtools rig? I suppose you'll be using multiple tie-down straps to secure your 4k investment. It looks like you can get just about any set-up with that rig. Thanks a lot for posting the photos.

Man very cool rig. I'd love to pick one up and do something similar. Too bad you're not in Oklahoma or i'd volunteer my 330 to race around with your M3 :)

Can't wait to see some footage

Kai, indeed too bad we don't live close enough to collaborate. A 330i would be an awesome chase car for tracking shots, but we have a new Legacy 2.5GT volounteering along with a very competent driver, so it's cool. That green Jetta is mine, and it will probably be full of chargers and empty iced coffee cups. Our first shoot is this weekend, so MAYBE and I stress MAYBE I will be able to get a little somethin' somethin' uploaded shortly thereafter, since I am getting so many requests. It will be a few months yet before I have any finished product, though. Although, Kai, if you are interrested in doing any work in post, we could undoubtedly use a cool intro credits sequence. *noticing that you are an After Effects guru*
