BMD's hyperdeck

I just read the press release. Blackmagic does NOT mention Hyperdeck SHUTTLE. Only Hyperdeck STUDIO.

Hopefully they will include the shuttle too immediately.

This also raises the question: Why not add Apple Pro Res too so everyone can have a choice?

Being able to do uncompressed when you really need it, and then be able to shoot with a great, but more practical editing codec would make the Blackmagic Shuttle be the perfect choice.

I'm sure Blackmagic would sell a ton of them.

ProRes require licensing. They might not want to have to raise the price of the unit or charges for the firmware.

And why is DNxHD less great or less practical? Prores is based on DNxHD and produce about the same quality of footage, and you can use it on every NLE, on every plateform, be it a MAC or a PC. Why bother with Prores?

I haven't worked with Avid DNxHD MXF media files. How would it work with FCP or Premiere Pro 5.5 on a OSX? Would it be native editing? Or would it be best to get the new Avid MC 6?

Of course, this assuming that Blackmagic will also offer this on the Hyperdeck SHUTTLE. I sure hope they do.

Any word if this applies to the Shuttle? I'm tempted to call, but I have bugged their tech support several times this week...

David from Cineform told me that BM licensed the Cineform codec. So DNxHD in the shuttle would be verry nice and welcome, but I really hope, that we also see Cineform there.

For those that have used the shuttle in its current form, has it been reliable?
For a device with no readout display, just a little flashing light, which uses perhaps 1 out of 100 SSDs on the market, it works as well as one would expect. Those things didn't seem that bad when I bought it, but suffice to say that in the field, those little problems are pretty limiting.

From what I've herd there will be a firmware upgrade using the display key to allow a record icon on your external monitor. As for DNxHD, not enough horsepower!

Hello, I'm very new to any type of forum, so please forgive me. I'm trying to figure out when i record onto the proper ssd with the Hyperdeck Shuttle...I'm recording with the Canon 5dm2, the video plays and stop constantly during playback. I've been trying to figure this out for two weeks and no luck. Any suggestions...

So I am a fcp editor, but looking into using the Avid system. I am wondering if anyone has any experience using the Hyperdeck Studio with Avid. I'm currently doing some video assist work and we are considering using this to give us an HD setup. Is it possible to use Avid or any other programs that you know about to control the Hyperdeck for playback. I know the unit has controls built in and you can simply jump from clip to clip, but I'm wondering if there is a faster way for me to catalog files and quickly access them through software for playback on the Hyperdeck. Thanks guys.
